5 Retro Movies We’d Travel Back in Time For
Great Scott! We just hitched a ride in Doc Brown’s DeLorean for a trip back in time! We may not have iPhones or Facebook anymore, but we’ll have groovy hair styles, bodacious clothes, and the most tubular movies ever made. Get ready to relive your favorite movies from the 1970’s, 1980’s, and 1990’s with our top 5 retro movie picks!
1) Jaws
Steven Spielberg's 1975 blockbuster hit, Jaws, introduced audiences to the man-eating great white shark that starred in every child's nightmare.
We’ll never be able to go for a swim in the ocean without hearing the ominous “duunnn dunnn...duuuunnnn duun...duuunnnnnnnn” music on a loop in our head.
Spielberg turned a pleasant summer trip to Amity Island into an unforgettable nightmare and our lifelong obsession with sharks...and we’ll never ever be the same again.
2) The Breakfast Club
It’s March 24th, 1984 and we’re stuck in Saturday detention with a school brain, an athlete, a basket case, a princess, and a criminal.
The John Hughes’ 1985 coming-of-age film, The Breakfast Club, convinced us that detention didn’t always have to be a punishment, there is always more to people than we know, and that friendships can blossom in even the most unexpected places.
Plus, we got the catchphrase “Eat My Shorts” which we’ll never get tired of saying.
3) Back to the Future
Whether you were all about the 1950’s, the “futuristic” 2015, or the Old West, you can bet that Back to the Future (Part 1, 2, and 3) made you believe in time travel.
Of course it’s possible to travel through time. All you need is a DeLorean and 1.21 gigawatts!
Dr. Emmett Brown and Marty McFly managed to navigate their way through the past — change their future for the better — and keep us laughing the whole time.
4) The Big Lebowski
The popular Coen Brothers cult classic, The Big Lebowski, taught us three important life lessons:
1) White Russians are delicious.
2) Bowling will never go out of style.
3) That rug really did tie the room together.
We know that not everyone can abide the oddball humor; however, the film’s wacky plot, clever dialogue, and weird characters will win audiences over every time. The Dude abides it too.
5) Fast Times at Ridgemont High
The 80’s were filled with amazing movies that taught us everything we need to know about high school, life, and love; the 1982 coming-of-age comedy, Fast Times at Ridgemont High is no different. California high school students wrestle with growing up, being true to themselves, and catching “tasty” waves. Well, that last part is mostly Spicoli, but we did get to learn all about that surfer lifestyle! It was totally awesome!
Who needs Facebook when you’ve got a DeLorean, a White Russian, and an awesome retro movie instead? We may have gotten stuck in Saturday detention or on a swim with a shark, but we’re still digging our trip back in time so far! We think we’ll hang out for a while because we’ve never looked better than we do with these cool shoulder pads, leg warmers, and big hairdos.
